Following on-time completion, American Cruise Lines took delivery of the modern riverboat American Melody from Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
Having successfully completed her sea trials, American Melody set sail for New Orleans, Louisiana, to embark on an eight-day cruise along the Mississippi River on 27 August. She will then operate a variety of Mississippi River cruise itineraries until December, including the 22-day ‘Complete Mississippi River Cruise’ between New Orleans and St. Paul, Minnesota.
American Cruise Lines also announced the names of the fifth and sixth ships in its modern riverboat series, which will be called American Symphony and American Serenade, respectively. Like American Melody, each will accommodate 175 passengers and will feature sky-lit atriums, multiple indoor and outdoor lounges, fitness centres and an open-air ‘Skywalk’ walking track.
Currently, the American Symphony and American Serenade are being constructed at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. The former will be delivered next summer, and the latter by the end of 2022.
