Downtown Chicago’s Sheraton Grand Hotel will reopen Monday as Illinois moves closer to a full reopening on Friday.
The Sheraton Grand has been closed since March of last year, but with the state about to reopen, guests can once again visit the property.
The ribbon-cutting will be held Monday morning as businesses around Illinois get ready to lift the COVID-19 capacity and social distancing restrictions in the state.
Clinical immunologist Dr Zachary Rubin warned that reopening does not mean that everything is back to normal.
According to him, wearing a mask at major events, especially for those unvaccinated, is still important because these events tend to get very large, and therefore transmission is still likely to take place.
If the rate increases in both cases and hospitalizations start going in the wrong direction, Rubin suggests restrictions could be reinstituted. For now, though, the state and city hope to reopen fully on Friday.
The public is reminded that even though mask mandates will ease up for fully vaccinated individuals, masks will still be required on public transportation, in hospital settings, and by individual businesses.
