Famed West Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont will be reborn as a private, members-only property.

Under a new business model, Chateau Marmont will become members-owned, said a hotel spokeswoman. In addition to hotel accommodations, members will have exclusive access to a private dining area and dedicated staff. They also will be able to leave personal belongings behind for extended periods as they come and go.

All prospective members will be vetted, with membership fees to be announced.

Chateau Marmont will complete its transition over the next year or so, with owner Andre Balazs planning to expand the private hotel concept to London, New York, Milan, Paris, Singapore and Tokyo, and resort destinations like the South of France or a Greek island.

Prior to the pandemic, approximately 70% of Chateau Marmont’s clientele were repeat guests, the hotel’s spokeswoman said, with the property essentially “already operating as a members-only hotel.”

Citing coronavirus-related concerns over safety, the hotel is currently only booking guests that are already known to the hotel or who come with a recommendation of a known guest.

Balazs’ hospitality portfolio includes the Mercer Hotel in New York, Chiltern Firehouse in London and the seasonal Sunset Beach in Shelter Island, N.Y.
