COVID-19: Osun plans live transmission of festival, tells foreign tourists to stay away

Foreign tourists and adherents from outside of Osun state are being advised not to attend this year’s Osun Osogbo festival to prevent the spread of the third wave of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Doctor Obawale Adebisi who stated this while addressing Journalists in Osogbo said the government would ensure live online transmission of all activities during the festival.

The Commissioner urged the tourists to bear with the state Governments urging those that will follow the votary maid to the grove to observe COVID-19 safety especially social distancing and the use of face masks.

He said, “As a pragmatic effort to control crowd and giving opportunities to the rest of the World to partake in the proceedings of grand-finale of the 2021 edition of this festival, the Government of Osun, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has collaborated with Active Projectile Limited, Lagos, Nigeria, to ensure the live transmission of the festival, by setting up virtual platform, and making virtual and live performance by reputable artistes as part of the activities.”

“We have told Ataoja the government’s position on this. We can’t stop those adherents residents in the state from coming. But foreign tourists, adherents and groups coming from outside Osun should follow the festival through our online platforms. This is to prevent spread of COVID-19.”
