According to UNITED Nigeria, its flight from Port Harcourt to Abuja, which trended while a short video showed passengers reacting with gratitude, was diverted back because of heavy turbulence.
United Nigeria said the passengers were never in danger as the pilot acted with professionalism and that passengers’ reactions would vary, urging them to get facts before posting inimical videos to social media.
A statement by Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu the airline’s Head, Corporate Communications read,
“United Nigeria flight on 4/6/2021 from PHC to ABV departed PHC with a clear and good weather forecast. However, on approaching Abuja experienced moderate turbulence which necessitated diverting back to Port Harcourt as weather conditions were below our operating requirements. The crew took the required and correct decision to return to PHC”.
“Hence, at no time was the flight or aircraft in any danger whatsoever. Our experienced crew acted with utmost professionalism which the pax highly and profusely commended and complimented. They praised United Nigeria for its high standards as well as professionalism. However, we understand that passengers react to weather turbulence in different ways, but it would help verify facts before going the social media route”.
“United Nigeria considers safety as one of its top priorities and every member of our crew will exercise the utmost care in every situation. As we are in the rainy season, we will experience flight disruptions and turbulence, which regular travellers like you are well aware of. We hope you will provide the public with accurate information. If you need more information, please contact us directly.”
