Nigerian airlines: Ibom Air and Dana Air signed a codeshare agreement, the first of its kind in the country’s aviation industry, to boost both airlines’ profitability in a highly competitive domestic market.
The codeshare agreement tagged: Dana-Ibom Alliance was signed at Ibom Air’s corporate headquarters at Victor Attah International Airport Uyo today, May 21, 2021.
The pioneering agreement provides Dana Air and Ibom Air with a business relationship in which both airlines operate flights to common destinations, while also serving destinations outside of each airline’s regular routes. By doing so, both airlines increase their market presence and competitive footprint for the benefit of the flying public.
Speaking at the event, Ibom Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr George Uriesi, said that a codeshare between two airlines would lead to increased capacity and frequencies into a shared destination, as well as offering options for the travelling public.
“With the initiation of this business alliance, both airlines have embraced a key global best practice. At Ibom Air, our business model and unwavering commitment remain schedule reliable, on-time departures and excellent service. Hence we are constantly on the lookout for better and more effective ways to serve our customers.
it took finding the right partner with the same mindset as yours. With the same philosophy committed to providing the basics to the customers, schedule reliability, on-time performance and excellent service essentially the philosophies that tie the two airlines.”
We are very hopeful that this is the beginning of a better way for our country to do business and we are looking forward to an alliance that will hopefully attract other airlines to join in with us or create something. We are very pleased about this, Ureisi said in an introductory statement.
Also speaking, Accountable Manager/ Chief Operating Officer of Dana Air, Mr Mbanuzuo said” This discussion started about a year ago and we are happy to be here today, formalising it. This is the first of its kind for domestic airlines in Nigeria and a huge step in the right direction for both Dana Air and Ibom Air.”
“In just the same way, George said, these two airlines have the same approach, the same customer-centric attitude. That is one thing that aligns us, it is all for the benefit of our customers. We have some work to do, we have to retrain ourselves and even the airports we use have to retrain us, but I’m sure with time it will improve.”
A codeshare agreement means that an airline operates flights for another carrier, or coordinates passengers on its behalf so they can utilize multiple airlines and check-in once using a single flight code.
