Nigeria COVID-19 Aviation Palliatives: House to probe COVID-19 Fund Disbursements
The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has yesterday resolved to demand from the Ministry of Aviation the detailed disbursement of the COVID-19 Aviation intervention fund. A lot of questions have been arising concerning the disbursement from the N5bn aviation palliative shared from the N27bn disbursed to the industry by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Yesterday we reported how stakeholders and airlines have the complaining that they are yet to receive their share and are wondering why the secrecy of the fund disbursement.
The Committee on Aviation chairman, Honourable Nnolim Nnaji has said in a statement yesterday that the distressed concerns raised by stakeholders regarding the matter were too weighty to be ignored.
According to him, the House committee on Aviation has resolved to demand from the Ministry of Aviation the detailed disbursement of the intervention fund.
Nnaji said,”The essence is not to witch hunt anybody but to clear every doubt over the disbursements. We want to know the detailed disbursements, airline by airline, the parastatals under the ministry and other organizations”.
The chairman also said that the committee was quite aware of the challenges facing the industry due to the COVID19 impact and the genuine concerns expressed by the Honourable Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika on the need for Federal Government’s palliative to the industry.
Recall that airline operators had complained that despite being asked to submit their details which they did, and yet to receive their own share of the initial N5bn.
