At Grand Junction Regional Airport, an Avelo Airlines Boeing 737-800 touched down on Sunday evening and was doused with water by a fleet of fire engines in a show of celebration. After departing the aircraft, the passengers were greeted with balloons, cookies, and greetings from Angela Padalecki, the airport’s executive director.
The event marked the official introduction of the airline to Grand Junction.
I loved it, said Tessa Richards, who travelled from Burbank. “We just discovered the airline and the rates were amazing. I would totally fly them again.” Every staff member from check-in to the plane was friendly and perfect. The plane was super-clean and felt brand new. It was lovely.”
Avenue Airlines is a new ultra-low-cost airline that took to the skies only recently. The company was founded in Burbank and began flying on April 28.
At the moment, the airline focuses primarily on medium-sized Western destinations, with Phoenix as its only major hub.
Avelo also services Santa Rosa, California; Bozeman, Montana; Medford, Oregon; Ogden, Utah; and Pasco, Washington. At the end of this month, the airline will also fly between Eugene and Redmond in Oregon and Eureka and Redding in California.
